General Game Play
:

Tol Barad is a PvP zone that can be entered by level 85 players every couple of hours (each match begins 2.5 hours after one has ended), as opposed to regular battlegrounds that can be joined at any time depending on your level.

Only one faction can control Tol Barad at any time so you will either be attacking or defending during a match.  If your faction controls TB at the beginning of a match, you will be defending.  The goal for the attacking team is to attack and gain control of all three locations - The Warden's Vigil, Ironclad Garrison, and the Slagworks.  All three must be controlled at the same time for the attacking team to win.

Attacking:

Basics:

To win the battle, the attacking team needs to gain full control of all three locations at the same time - the Warden's Vigil, Ironclad Garrison, and the Slagworks.  When the enemy or defending team loses a location it doesn't mean that your team controls it yet.  It just means that the enemy team did control it and have lost control because it was attacked by your team.  You can think of the location as being neutral at this point.  However, it is typical that once a node is lost by one team, the other team gains control of it rather quickly.

You can monitor which team has control over a location by looking at your map and viewing the icons that represent each node.  The Warden's Vigil and Ironclad Garrison have icons that look like little towers and the Slagworks has an icon that looks like an anvil.  If the icon is fully colored in, the node is fully controlled.  If the icon is only half colored in, no team fully controls the location.  The color of the icon will let you know the faction that is in control as well.  If it is blue, the alliance control it.  If it is red, the horde control it.

Although the battle can be won at any time by the attacking team as long as they control all three nodes simultaneously, the longer the match lasts, the more chance the attacking team will have of winning.  To lengthen the match, players on the attacking team can use vehicles to destroy any of the three towers.  This will be discussed more in the "Towers and Vehicles" section of this page.

How to Gain and Maintain Control of Nodes:

To gain control of a node that is controlled by the enemy, you need to attack it with enough players to wipe out the enemies that are there.  Whatever team has more players at a particular node will begin to capture that node (or defend it)

Defending:

Defending Tol Barad is typically a little easier than attacking in most player's opinion.  This is because the defending team only really needs to hold on to one base at a time.  As long as the defending team prevents the attacking team from gaining control of all three nodes for the duration of the battle, the defending team will win.  As well, the node that is defended does not always have to be the same and can switch from one location to another several times within a single match.  As well, the defending team can attempt to prevent the attackers from destroying any of the towers.  Preventing the towers from being destroyed will help to avoid extra time being added to the duration of the battle.

Towers and Vehicles:

There is only one type of vehicle available in Tol Barad and that is the Siege Engine.  The Siege Engine is only available for players on the attacking team.  They are used to destroy the towers (or spires as they are otherwise called).   If a tower is destroyed 5 minutes is added to the duration of the battle.  There are 3 towers in total so the battle can last an additional 15 minutes if they are all destroyed.
